Car Alarm That Can Call My Cell Phone?

Hi all,

I have read about car alarms that can call your cell phone or send you a text message when they are set off, but I am having touble finding any online.

I have been able to find some that have proprietary pagers that you carry with you, but they all have limited range and the pager units are pretty bulky compared to a normal keyless entry key fob.

Does anyone have any leads or information on a cell-phone auto dialer option?

Should states ban the sale and use of audible car alarms?

WSB TV did a mini-series on audible car alarms in back 2004. A Turner Field investigation proved that thieves targeted parked cars with audible alarms, and that activating an alarm tells waiting thieves that handheld devices, digital cameras, even firearms may be present in ‘protected’ cars.

Add in the public annoyance factors and you might conclude that silent systems would be just as valuable –maybe more effective. Besides, what is the average person going to do if/when they see someone break into their vehicle?

I would guess that cars of similar type with car alarms are stolen no more than 5 percent less than cars without alarms. I suppose each of us has to weigh whether the reduced risk is worth the hassle to ourselves and neighbors when, as too often happens, the thing goes off inadvertently. A careful answer should address the fact that expensive cars are both worth more to steal and worth putting up with more hassle.

Car alarms are not that difficult to arm and disarm. You have a key fob and a couple of buttons. Why do people constantly set their car alarms off at all hours of the day or night? And then it takes forever for them to shut them off?

Due to stupidity, car alarms are now useless theft deterants. Everyone just assumes the stupid owner set the alarm off. The thief can take his time stealing from or stealing the car while the alarm is blasting and noone bothers to call the cops.
